Who does the work
Work is done by independent local contractors. Pricing and availability are set by the contractor serving your area. The contractor decides whether they can take the job, when they can come out, and what the work costs.
Questions worth asking before you sign
- Is the plan based on a floor elevation survey, and can I have a copy of the readings?
- How many piers, of what type, where, and how deep? Why that number?
- Who pulls the city permit, and will a separate plumbing permit be needed?
- Is a licensed engineer involved? Who hired them, and will I get a copy of their letter or report?
- What does the warranty cover, for how long, and does it transfer to a buyer? Is there a fee?
- Will the plumbing be tested before and after the lift, and by a licensed plumber?
- Which drainage or watering changes are part of the plan, and which are left to me?
- Get the full price, payment schedule and start date in writing, don't pay in full until the work is finished and checked, and compare at least two plans.

Scheduling questions
Who comes out to look at the house?
A local foundation contractor who works in your part of the Austin area. They set the time, inspect the house and walk you through what they found.
Who decides the price?
The contractor, in a written plan, before any work begins. The cost pages on this site show published ranges with sources, so you can tell whether a number is in the usual band.
Is a second opinion worth it?
For a big repair, usually. Get a second written plan, or pay a licensed professional engineer who doesn't sell repairs to evaluate the house.
What should I gather before the visit?
Dated photos of the cracks with something for scale, a list of sticking doors and windows, the year the house was built, and any paperwork from earlier repairs.
